Policies Regarding Minors and Volunteering
Age restrictions are posted for each volunteer opportunity for the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon. Most opportunities allow minors who are 15 to 17 to participate as volunteers, with the following guidelines:
Minors aged 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult. For teams containing minors, one adult is required to volunteer as part of the team for every 5 minors in the group.
Sorry, no one under the age of 15 can participate as a volunteer for the Escape for Alcatraz Triathlon. If you have children under the age of 13 who wish to attend the Triathlon as a spectator, please arrange for someone else to be responsible for them while you are serving as a volunteer. You can rejoin your family members after you have finished your shift as a volunteer.
13-14 year olds can accompany parents (but not participate in volunteer duties) at a limited number of volunteer positions:
o Goodie Bag Stuffing
o Body Marking
o Aid Stations
o Finish Corral
o Bag Corral
Parents must take full responsibility for their 13 or 14-aged teens while volunteering, ensure they stay in a safe place, and let them understand that while they can accompany and observe, they cannot assist with the volunteer activity due to liability issues. 13-14 year olds cannot accompany volunteers at any other volunteer assignments.
15-17 year-olds cannot use the electronic waiver form as their waiver MUST be signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate. A group leader cannot sign in place of a minor's parent or legal guardian.
